A memorial service for Dr. James Brown will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Masson-Woodard Mortuary, 3701 E. Seventh St.
Brown joined Missouri Southern as an instructor in 1984. He received tenure in 1989 and professor status in 2000. He taught classes such as basic composition, general communication, psychology and academic skills.
He served as the writing resource coordinator for students and faculty at the Learning Center, where he trained the center’s tutors and supervised writing peer tutors. He served on the English Department’s Freshman Composition Committee, the Teaching and Learning Committee and the Promotion Committee, among others.
He was the husband of Dr. Deborah Brown, former dean of the School of Education.
Memorial donations can be made to the funeral home to Lungevity, the Lung Cancer Foundation.
