A fixture on local television airwaves from 1958 to 1975 and the Four States version of “American Bandstand”, “Teen Hop” will be inducted into this year’s Regional Media Hall of Fame.
A reception and awards ceremony is set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 in the North End Zone Facility.
The show aired on KODE-TV and featured students from area high schools in a dance competition. During the course of its run, more than 15,000 students participated, representing over 60 high schools across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
“The show had a large following and provided a lot of memories for a generation of regional students,” said Judy Stiles, general manager of KGCS-TV. “We’re glad to be able to showcase this program and to recognize it for its contribution to the region.”
Some of the show’s participants will be in attendance at the ceremony. A video featuring old footage and participant interviews will also be shown.
The Regional Media Hall of Fame recognizes the contributions made by media that have made a significant impact on the profession and the community. Awards have been presented since 2006.
