The Pollinator Club at Missouri Southern State University, along with the Joplin Area Beekeepers Association, will host a one-day conference for area beekeepers/pollinator enthusiasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in Billingsly Student Center’s Connor Ballroom.
Four States Bee Conference 2019 will feature five speakers, including Dr. Randy Oliver of ScientificBeekeeping.com, who will present on topics such as bee management techniques, pesticides and resources/programs for pollinator habitat restoration to name a few.
“This conference serves to help educate the public about problems facing pollinators and resources available to help combat these problems,” said Dr. Mary (Katie) Kilmer, assistant professor of biology and environmental health. “MSSU provides a perfect venue to bring together community members, professionals in the field and students.
This activity will also help the pollinator club move towards its goal of getting our campus certified as a bee-friendly campus.”
The event is open to the public. The cost per person is $20 and includes lunch.
Those wishing to attend need to register no later than Wednesday, Oct. 23. Registration forms are available at www.joplinareabeekeepers.com.
They can also confirm their registration by emailing Kilmer, at kilmer-m@mssu.edu, and pay at the door. Those who register later than Wednesday are welcome to attend, but lunch is not guaranteed.
