Cross-training personnel has its benefits, from increasing productivity and reducing costs to grooming employees for promotion and boosting team motivation. But in the Missouri Southern Admissions office, cross-training has some even better benefits like breakfast adventures, air-hockey shenanigans, and bragging rights!
To kick off the new year and support the Empowering U initiative, the department created and completed their first process improvement challenge of 2020 – adMISSION POSSIBLE. The challenge focused on cross-training department personnel and consisted of three goals, all of which led to the completion of a knowledge-based assessment of the department.
The challenge had admission personnel writing and answering questions relating to specific job duties within the department. Questions ranged from office policies and procedures to recruitment deadlines and admission paperwork requirements, all of which were used to compile the admissions cross-training assessment.
To help personnel prepare for their final cross-training assessment, a pre-test was offered and a fun, interactive Jeopardy-style game turned all-out knowledge bowl competition was held. The results included lots of laughs, plenty of learning and the entire department scoring 80 percent or higher on their final assessment.
To celebrate their cross-training win, the department was treated to breakfast and then spent a few hours at TILT improving skills for their next challenge, which we’re told may or may not include laser tag and air hockey.
Congrats to the entire Admissions team for setting and completing their adMISSION POSSIBLE challenge and showing students why it’s always a great day to be a Lion!
