The Missouri Southern women’s soccer team has been awarded the Team Academic Award by the United Soccer Coaches as announced by the organization today.

A total of 889 college teams (333 men, 556 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 172 schools who had both their men’s and women’s programs recognized. United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2019-20 academic year.

The Lions posted a 3.42 team GPA this academic year and Southern has won the award ten times dating back to the 2002 season.

“In my short time here at Missouri Southern I have stressed the importance of our academic achievement as part of our development of the program and each player,” said head coach Aaron Tilsen. “The team has bought in to this ideal and is constantly striving for the highest results in the classroom and on the field.  We currently have 4 players in the honors program and look to recruit players who are top level students and athletes.”
