Donations are being sought for the sixth annual Chase the Chill fundraiser, which is co-sponsored by the Social Work League of Lions at Missouri Southern.
Warms, scarves, hats and gloves that are handmade or gently used are being collected in buildings around campus. The collection will continue through Dec. 3. Volunteers will take the donated items to hang in locations throughout Joplin where people in need can obtain them.
Launched in Joplin more than five years ago, the effort provides warm clothing items to hundreds of people each year.
The League of Lions social work group has taken up Chase the Chill as one of their main projects.
The group was formed to help acclimate students to the field of social work, foster relationships on campus and conduct volunteer efforts on campus and in the community, said Tara Garrity, social work instructor and adviser for the League of Lions club.
