The fifth annual Southern Summit will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, on the third floor of Billingsly Student Center at Missouri Southern State University.

The professional development event is open to all faculty and staff members, both in person and via Microsoft Teams.

There will be dozens of educational sessions offered, focusing on four main learning tracks: Leadership, Student Success, Digital Native and Something Southern. Campus personnel who participate will have the opportunity to learn from peers and other experts on topics such as leadership development, student recruitment and retention, curriculum design, available campus resources and more.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Derald Davis, assistant superintendent of equity, inclusion and innovation for Kansas City Public Schools. He will present “Developing an Inclusive Campus Environment” at noon in BSC’s Connor Ballroom.

New this year is the Morning Meet-Up, a pre-event get-together from 8 to 9 a.m. in BSC 314. The room will be the location of the Lion Lounge throughout the day. Participants can grab a snack and network with colleagues before or after Southern Summit sessions.

Members of the media are invited to attend to learn more about the annual event, and learn how the professional development sessions are used to engage and educate the campus community.
