Winners of the annual Southern Media Showcase competition were announced during a special online presentation on Thursday, Dec. 9, at Missouri Southern State University.
The annual competition is open to area high-school students in categories for publications and audio/video work, with winners receiving medals. In the past, students came to campus for a day of presentations and awards. The program was revised last year to an online-only competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The continued challenges presented by the pandemic kept us from holding the event in person. We were still able to have schools participate and submit student work this year,” said Bobbie Pottorff, KGCS general manager. “We have some really creative and talented young adults in our area high schools.”
Plans are for the event to be held in person again in December 2022. Entries will be due in October.
Area teachers interested in learning more information about the competition may check the website at https://www.mssu.edu/academics/arts-sciences/communication/kgcs/media-showcase-2021.php. They may also contact the contest coordinator, Tennyson Williams, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Southern Media Showcase is sponsored by the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern, with faculty, staff and students working together on the event. Support this year was provided by the Missouri Broadcasters Association, Missouri Press Association, Missouri Southern State University Relations and Marketing, and the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
