An explosive exhibit by Kansas City multimedia artist Shawn Bitters is set to open Tuesday, Jan. 18, in the Spiva Gallery at Missouri Southern State University.
Bitters works with drawing, painting, screen-printing, digital media and sculpture to create volcanic landscapes. The works that make up the exhibit – “Vents, Missives, and Fumaroles” – were inspired by field research in Iceland, Sicily, Japan and a wide range of environments in the American West.
His works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. He is an associate professor in the Department of Visual Art at the University of Kansas.
The exhibit at Missouri Southern will run through Wednesday, Feb. 9. A reception and artist talk will be offered at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium and will be followed by a reception in the gallery.
The presentation will also be offered via Zoom:
