In the event of severe weather or an emergency that causes the closure of the MSSU campus, we recommend that in addition to watching for a University Announcement, our students, faculty and staff should check the following sources for information:
- The university website at www.mssu.edu
- Our official university Facebook and Twitter sites – www.facebook.com/mssulions and www.twitter.com/mosolions
- Local and regional radio and television stations, as well as their websites
- The Joplin Globe online at www.joplinglobe.com
Administrators and departments are encouraged to use their university voicemail greetings to post announcements for students, vendors and others who call in for information.
If inclement weather occurs during Finals Week resulting in a closing, the printed and online versions of the Schedule Book contain information about a contingency plan for finals: Spring 2022 Schedule of Classes
If theatre, music or athletic events are scheduled on days that campus is closed, individuals should check the website, social media sites, or contact the individual departments to determine the status of those activities.
As soon as decisions are made, personnel post the online notifications and contact the media outlets. Please also be aware that during times of school and business closings, many other organizations are contacting the media at the same time and it can take an extended period to get through to the appropriate contact people. Check the sources frequently.
POSSIBLE INCLEMENT WEATHER THIS WEEK | February 2 – 4
With possible ice and heavy snow in the forecast this week, should the weather preclude us from opening campus, Missouri Southern will pivot to an online learning model. A message confirming campus closure with specific details will be sent out at that time.
Students, please check the syllabus for your classes, as each has information regarding online learning. If you have any questions, please stay in contact with your instructors to ensure classwork can continue as planned.
Staff, if you have the capabilities to work from home we would appreciate if you would do so. Prepare to work from home, taking any materials needed. Check in with your supervisor regarding any questions you might have. Campus staff will be paid as normal for any campus closure days. Human Resources will email additional instructions regarding filling out timesheets to classified staff.
Faculty members, please remind your students to review the syllabus for virtual learning instructions. Let them know you are available via email to answer any questions they might have during this period. Prepare to work from home, taking any materials needed to do so.
