Traumatic events, such as the 2011 Joplin tornado, can leave a long-lasting imprint. An anniversary has the power to reawaken challenging thoughts and feelings, and that can be unsettling.

During this month’s Cigna EAP brown bag training, join Mary Hughes, Cigna-certified facilitator, for “Anniversary of a Traumatic Event: Managing Distress.” It will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, April 29, in BSC 341 and via an on-demand webcast. Lunch will be provided for those attending in-person and online.

Hughes will talk about why an anniversary reaction can be so intense and how to manage those emotions. The value of rituals, purposeful activities, and self-care will also be discussed. We may not be able to avoid the difficult feelings that surge on an anniversary, but we can respond in ways that help us ride through it with less discomfort and stress.

Reservations are required by Thursday, April 21. Email HRtraining@mssu.edu to confirm your in-person or virtual attendance.
