Missouri Southern State University will host a presentation on “Searching for Ghosts: A Journey through the History, Mysteries, and Haunted Places of Prague” at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium.
The lecture will be presented by Michele Patrick, author of “Haunted Prague: Stories of Spirits, Sorcerers, and the Supernatural.” Published in 2019, the book shares stories of supernatural legends that are associated with notable tourist attractions. It has been featured at the National Czech and Slovak Museum & Library.
With her mother being from former Czechoslovakia, Patrick grew up leaning about the country and continued her education at the University of London, and eventually lived in Prague for a brief period of time.
Known as one of the most haunted cities in the world, Prague has a rich history of real events and people that have shaped the capital city’s ghost stories into what they are today. Patrick’s slideshow of the city will highlight both the legends – including ghosts, golems, a cursed crown and even a dancing demon – and why these stories have been important to the survival of its people.
Admission is free and open to the public. The presentation can also be viewed here via Teams.
