The Board of Governors at Missouri Southern State University met at 1 p.m. Friday, March 10, in the Billingsly Student Center Boardroom. Before this meeting, there was a major gift announcement from the Lions Forward Campaign. MSSU recognized Dr. Bob and Dot Willcoxon for their generous and transformational gift of $1 million to the fundraising campaign.
During Friday’s board meeting, Dr. Dean Van Galen provided updates on events like MOSO Connect and the Global Leaders Speaker Series. He also announced upcoming spring activities like the hosting of TEDxMSSU on May 4.
In other business:
- Dr. Brad Hodson gave a progress update on the Lions Forward campaign and announced the development of a new three year facilities improvement plan.
- Dr. Shellie Hewitt provided a recap on this year’s Green and Gold Tour. The university visited Neosho and McDonald County public schools. These events provided high schools students the opportunity to learn about Missouri Southern, engage with admissions counselors, and enter a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarships were presented to four lucky students, two from each school, during a varsity basketball game.
- Rob Mallory provided updates on the success of student athletes, including women’s basketball winning the MIAA conference tournament.
The next board meeting is scheduled for June 8, 2023.
